Cazwell f/ Jonny Makeup: "I Seen Beyoncé At Burger King"

Single (2008)

By Danny Roca | 18 August 2008

To prepare us for his new album, the long overdue follow-up to 2006’s dirrty Get Into It EP, NYC rapper Cazwell has teamed up with Jonny Makeup to knock out a glitch-pop novelty that somehow outdumbs Afroman’s “Because I Got High.” Let’s get this straight: “I Seen Beyoncé At Burger King” isn’t going to get any Ivor Novellos but this shit is contagious. Based on a supposedly true encounter where Beyoncé borrowed ten dollars which were never returned (debatable), the song plays B as cheap and self-centered on lines like “Wearing her freakum dress from House of Dereon / And she was patting her weave with her palm,” which kinda tickles me to no end.

There should be a warning attached to this song, though. After just one listen, Jonny Makeup’s nasal tones will bury into your brain like a Bronx-born parasite and it will play on an endless loop. So think twice before you click on the link to watch the dragalicious dayglo video. But, hey, that NY beyatch vocal hook worked for Sister Bliss’ “Life Is A Bitch,” and even after my 17th listen the semi-stoned “She was what? / She was eatin’ / Oh” exchange still makes me laugh. Hopefully, when he drops his new album he will keep the fun but work his tongue round something a little more meaningful.
