Das Racist: "Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell (Wallpaper. Remix)"

Single (2009)

By Calum Marsh | 8 June 2009

If you Tweet your afternoon lunch plans and nobody’s around to read it, does it make a sound? In the case of Das Racist’s “Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell,” the sound spans 3:41 and everyone on the internet hears it within a weekend. This shit’s divisive in the way that banal pop-anything always is, fleetingly pleasing for some while signaling the very decline of the American cultural landscape for others. And, as usual, it’s impossible to form an opinion on this either way that doesn’t paint you as droolingly moronic or scoff-inducingly smug. Is this pap insipid? No doubt, but (importantly!) winkingly so. Thus: deride away, but know that to accuse “Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell” of vacuity would be to accuse the Baconatorâ„¢ of lacking nutritional content. Extravagant fluff like this is harmless (I guess) and fun, if you’re into that sorta thing, and anyway those horns sound pretty okay, right? Think of it as Twitter to “I Love College”‘s Facebook: same breed of trite time-wasting trash, but just different enough to compliment one another rather than outright compete. As an Asher Roth addendum Das Racist do just fine, and until the slack-jawed stoner-jock rap bubble bursts you’d better get used to jams in 140 characters or less.
