Lexie Mountain Boys: "Low Tide Sirens Say"
(2008)
By Logan Young | 11 September 2008
Now that HBO has gunned down The Wire, it’s once again safe to walk the streets of Baltimore. Moreover, now that Dan Deacon’s found a home at the Copycat Building and Drew Daniels of Matmos is lecturing sleepy undergraduates at Johns Hopkins, Charm City is safer than ever for experimental music. That said, if I happened across just one of the five succubae in this a cappella coven, I’d be heading straight for the Chesapeake—and, judging by this cut from Sacred Vacation, that’s exactly what the Lexie Mountain Boys would want me to do. Gathered ‘round a single microphone spitting the nastiest improvised creep-down curfluffle this side of those incestuous saps in Akron, this is what it really sounds like when doves cry.
