Syvelle Newton: "BOOM"
Unreleased (2008)
By Logan Young | 10 September 2008
Granted, I wasn’t even an itch in my daddy’s slacks during the Gamecocks’ ’69 ACC championship season. Furthermore, I was still suckling something when Joe Morrison’s ’84 squad took the field. And while I have a vague recollection of some Yankee with a mullet named Steve Taneyhill taking the snaps for USC, I know him better as the head ball coach for the Chesterfield High Rams. So, for my tuition money, Wallace native Syvelle Newton is one of the best Gamecocks I’ve seen at Williams-Brice Stadium, and until Lou Holtz comes out with that record of lispy, rapped cathechisms, he’ll probably remain the best r&b crooner to ever don the garnet and black. Slightly more crunk than his usual come-hither boo fare—thanks to an 80,000 strong “Game-Cocks” chant throughout—this could be the new Also sprach Zarathustra should they ever get a real band for half-time.
Oh yeah, did I mention Syvelle writes and produces it all himself?
