Clipse f/ Pharrell: "Mr. Me Too"

(2006)

By Connor Morris | 28 January 2008

Perhaps aware that their status as the can’t do wrong Dream Team of production has waned over the years, our friends in the Neptunes take the “it’s familiar” approach to the Clipse comeback, cashing in on a minimalist trend and milking the one shtick they’ve managed to keep above water. Falling somewhere between “Grindin’” and “Already Platinum,” the construction paper snare and sheet noise aesthetic don’t lend themselves to the cannonball blasts of We Got it 4 Cheap. A brief respite before the coked up rhymes of Pusha and Mal, Pharrell takes stab at the microphone first, and with glassy braggadocio still in tow, can barely manage a paper cut. Once up, the brothers lay down more signature diss talk, taking aim at the hanger’s on, and announcing their now official return to radio waves and television sets. Without pushing ground (no puns), the gang still musters a cordial homecoming, and furthers the already opulent fervor surrounding the forthcoming Hell Hath no Fury LP.
