From the Neptunes’ increasingly spurious dominance to the workaday beatsmanship of the imitators. At least this thing fucking kicks, though. Khao sets a couple vibes toppling over one another like white dudes shredding a rug, all jazzy tones and wide open chords instead of breaks, like one of those early-game Neptunes beats that Hov wouldacoulda knocked out the park. Think “Change Clothes,” but a little tighter and less eager to please. The drums hit thick, pleasant and dumb, claps all over the place and crash cymbals every few measures.

Tip’s words run the razor’s edge between smooth- and shit-talk, employing flattery, confidence and assumption, the threefold gamespit, and showing up next to her with, “Can't help but notice how you glowing, I can see in your face / Now I just wonder if he know he close to being replaced.” He bares his soul, too, even going so far as to admit, “I can tell you ain’t just another bitch I met,” which is almost word-for-word how I got my girlfriend. All the while, though, he’s defaming her current beau, politely inquiring, “Do he hit it from the back and make you feel it in your chest / Take advantage of what you concealing inside your dress?” He has effectively talked his way into this listener’s pants, which is a lot more than could be said for Pharrell, Ye or Snoop before him, and the beat succeeds as fuller, richer and a helluva lot more fun than anything the real Neptunes have done lately. But, uh...
