The Jealous Sound: "Priceless (Alternate Version)"
Download (2009)

Lost somewhere in the nostalgia surrounding this year’s Sunny Day Real Estate reunion tour is the fact that the Jealous Sound, one of the premiere (if late arriving) emo bands from the tail end of the ’90s is opening the shows. This alternate version of “Priceless,” first appearing on the Sound’s still-incredible debut EP, isn’t all that alternate but serves nonetheless to remind us what a tragedy it is that it’s been six full years since the band’s ponderous debut and only full length record, Kill Them With Kindness.
This is a band well worth a revisit. They didn’t change any music scenes, didn’t change the way people listened to music, don’t hail from halcyon days that someone’s older brother insists offered some surfeit of consistently great music. They’re just a great band, a band that sold 11,000 copies of their EP on tiny Better Looking Records—mostly at shows—and a band worth their melodic weight in gold. Promise Ring and Sunny Day Real Estate may twinge a tear from the corner of our eye, but Jealous Sound are just as deserving of that look back.
