This podcast—officially my first; wish me luck—shares a great deal in common with the best fast-food breakfast going, the McGriddle. Like McDonalds’ delectable morning treat, mixtapes dominated by indie rock carry the stigma of being somehow “uncultured,” of interest to those with less discerning tastes. But the McGriddle (=indie rock) is, when you get right down to it, really goddamn good. Maybe it’s a guilty pleasure, but then maybe it’s better than you’d care to admit. Maybe it’s more than just watery eggs (=guitars), sausage patty (=dudes), and an English muffin (=white people). In an ambiguous procedure, McDonalds (=music industry) has imbued those muffins with sweet, marvelous syrup (=syrup), and the resulting breakfast sandwich is…well, try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Syrupy thanks to the artists, labels, and PR peeps who made this McPodcast possible. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get breakfast. I’m pretty hungry.
