So, phew, this podcast—our first since breaking for those phenomenal decade-spanning Fantasy Covers—arrives just in time for Mother’s Day. That’s no coincidence: if you want to show mom how much you care, or make up for a bit of the shame you bring her the other 364 days of the year, we’ve got you covered. Fuck flowers—just find a way to replace those chips in musical cards with this mp3, set it on repeat, remove the “off” switch, and strap that shit to a battery so it’ll last for years to come. The next time you can be bothered to call, the two of you can bond by trading verses of “Hoedown Showdown.”
So, with love to all artists and labels involved—especially Henry Jacobs, whose Around the World: More Notes From Underground (Important Records, 2010) is scattered over and between these songs; the release is fascinating in how it reflects an earlier era and mindset, perhaps like your mother, but also in how it was abandoned for forty years only to be rescued by an indie label, hopefully unlike your mother—we wish you the best of luck fitting this into a Hallmark:
