LXXIV

By Scott Reid | 11 July 2010

With thanks to all of the artists and labels involved in making it possible, CMG Podcast #74 at first appeared to have the heavens on its side. 74 is, after all, is the numerologist sum for none other than Jesus (J=10 + E=5 + S=19 + U=21 + S=19 = Awesome). But…as it turns out, along with the more popular 666 it is also the number of the dark lord himself, Lucifer—which, if you put enough stock in numbers and superstition, might make you seriously question putting stock in numbers and superstition. (Also, to borrow a quote from Kurt Vonnegut: “From that I conclude that God Almighty is not heavily into numerology.”)

So fuck the number 74. This podcast is instead dedicated to the vinyl re-release of Jim Guthrie’s Now, More Than Ever. We sorta dropped the ball on that record when we put together our Best of the Decade list a few months back, but make no mistake: this still holds up as one of last decade’s best indie folk-pop records. Enjoy one of ten reasons why at the end of this podcast:
