LXXXIX
By Scott Reid | 21 February 2011
First, thanks again for helping us move forward in the CBC Radio 3 Searchlight contest: we just made it into the top 30, in what we assume was an almost comical landslide. I won’t bother getting into all of the details again—check the last few podcasts for that, most importantly the stakes for Radio 3’s hard-luck, tragic-horrorshow-of-nature mascot Bucky—beyond that you can still vote for us at http://bit.ly/hQ0ENa, and that the next cut off, for the top 20, happens this Thursday.
We realize you might want to vote for, say, Weird Canada instead, it being an awesome blog and also up for the “prize,” but let’s stay focused here. Need we remind you of our Listravaganzas? Or our heart-warming and insightful Hatebags? Or, even better, the totally free Fantasy Covers podcast series, featuring a ton of great Canadian artists like Cadence Weapon, Shotgun & Jaybird with Julie Doiron, Laura Barrett, Dog Day, Noah23, HILOTRONS, Rich Aucoin, Rock Plaza Central, Luyas, Boats!, Bruce Peninsula’s Neil Haverty, etc? Not to mention Mark’s Retconning features. Plus: advice columns from Yeezy and Tom Waits? We got that shit!, kind of. Rumour also has it—thanks to AV Club‘s interpretation of this review—we also once had David Bowie as an intern. We won’t confirm or deny that, but encourage you to vote for us based on it.
Three straight weeks of new podcasts not thanks enough for your daily vote? Here’s a fourth, with the promise that we’ll keep spoiling you with weekly podcasts if you help us get through the next few rounds of this contest. So, with thanks to all of the artists and labels involved, each now tangled in a shameless vote-grabbing effort they know nothing about, enjoy:
